Natural Gas Service Overview
To request a natural gas installation, the contractor or property owner will need to
complete an application. Please be prepared to provide the following information:

Customer name, mailing address, phone number and daytime contact information

Address of service location
-
Contractor name, address, phone and fax numbers

Desired date of service

Residential and Small Commercial Installations:

Customer Responsibilities
If the total requested gas load is less than 425,000* btu per hour:
*Determine btu per hour by checking load information on each appliance nameplate and then calculate sum total.

Install and connect all internal gas piping through the foundation to Unitil meter bracket

Schedule inspection of all internal plumbing by local city or town plumbing inspector

Company Responsibilities

Work with the customer to determine the gas service installation location

Install gas service from the gas main in the road to the meter run at the foundation wall
Meter and Service Department:

Install meter run at the building foundation for connection of internal piping by customer's plumber

Install gas meter once internal plumbing has been inspected and approved by local city or town plumbing inspector

Large Commercial and Industrial Installations:

Customer Responsibilities
If the total requested gas load is greater than 425,000* btu per hour:
*Determine btu per hour by checking load information on each appliance nameplate and then calculate sum total.
- Install and connect all internal piping through foundation to Unitil meter bracket
- Schedule inspection of all internal plumbing by local city or town plumbing inspector
- Provide bollards to protect the gas meter (this is determined on a case-by-case basis)
