Trench Cover & Clearance Specs

		Customer Responsibilities

• Excavate the trench to the proper depth
• Grade the trench (by hand if necessary) to remove all stones or sharp objects and to provide an even bed for the pipe
• Install a 12AWG solid copper tracer wire centered along the bottom of the trench. The Company will provide this wire and all connections required
• Install 4" to 6" of screened sand or equivalent material on top of the tracer wire along the bottom of the trench. This shall be graded (by hand if necessary) to provide and even bed for the pipe
• See Direct Burial of Plastic Mains construction standard for proper installation procedures
• Coordinate with the Company whenever it is necessary to excavate a long trench. The trench may be done in sections
• Provide a copy of the signed street opening permit from the appropriate city or town if the customer's excavation will take place in a public way
• Request a trench inspection by a Company Representative

At no time shall newly installed gas piping be left uncovered overnight, without prior approval from the Company Representative.
