On October 25, 2002, the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission approved Unitil's New Hampshire Restructuring settlement. The highlights include:

• On December 1, 2002, the combination of Concord Electric Company and Exeter & Hampton Electric Company into a single company named Unitil Energy Systems

• Opening the service territory to Choice for energy supply on May 1, 2003.
  • For residential and small commercial customers Transition Service energy supply will be available for three years, until April 30, 2006.
  • For large commercial and industrial customers, Transition Service energy supply was designed to be available for two years, expiring April 2005. In October 2004, Unitil filed to extend this transition electric supply service for one additional year to April 30, 2006. On January 7, 2005, the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission approved this one year extention to April 30, 2006
