Q:  Does the gas company install appliances like heating systems, boilers, and gas cooking equipment?
A:  The gas company does not install appliances.

Q:  Does the gas company recommend local contractors I can call for installation quotes?
A:  The company does not recommend anyone; although we have provided a listing on our site where participating local contractors may leave their contact information and specialties.

Q:  Can the gas company help me figure out how to save money on my utility bills?
A:  Yes. Unitil has a Demand Side Management program (DSM) designed to help our customers figure out how to save money on their utility bills, please click on the following link to go to DSM.

Q:  What is a Btu?
A:  British thermal unit (Btu). The amount of heat energy necessary to raise the temperature of one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit.

Q:  What is a Therm?
A:  A unit of heating value equivalent to 100,000 British thermal units (Btu)(0.1 MMBtu).

Q:  What is an Mcf?
A:  One thousand cubic feet of natural gas.

Q:  What do the different colored little flags I see on the side of the road mean?
A:  If the utilities (electric, natural gas, telephone and cable) in your area have underground facilities, they will mark the lines with flags to prevent injury and unsafe excavation.

Q:  What is Dig Safe® and why should I call them before I dig?
A:  Dig Safe® is an underground damage prevention system comprised primarily of electric, natural gas, telephone, and cable companies. If there are underground facilities in your work area, your utility will flag the lines they maintain, preventing injury and saving you the expense of costly repairs.
