The Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy (DTE) has approved plans, effective November 1, 2000, to allow the sale of natural gas and its delivery to be separated for residential and small business customers. This means that ultimately, you will be able to purchase the gas you use from a competitive supplier and Unitil will continue to deliver it to you.
It is expected that this process will eventually provide the opportunity for a more competitive marketplace for the sale of natural gas to all customers. The options available to you will depend on the products and services offered by competitive suppliers who decide to enter the marketplace in the future. All competitive suppliers must be certified by the DTE.
